A hair accessory from Jo Thorne is a fine piece of sterling silver jewellery, and should be treated with care. Over time, sterling silver will oxidise and acquire a patina; this process is what gives vintage jewellery it's antique appearance.

Some Jo Thorne pieces have been given a lightly antiqued finish as part of the design, but it's still essential to polish your jewellery from time to time.


Avoid getting hairspray on your jewellery as this contains acetone, which can attack and damage freshwater and cultured pearls, adhesives used for stone setting, and the resin used in dragonfly wings and other inlaid parts. Ask your stylist to fit your tiara or hair jewellery after they have styled your hair!

For similar reasons, please avoid getting perfume on your jewellery. Apply perfume before wearing.

For regular polishing, use a Goddard's silver cloth, available from many supermarkets, and department stores such as John Lewis.

For a deeper clean, use Goddard's silver dip. Please note that if your jewellery has an antiqued finish, silver dip will remove this if you leave it in too long! Use with care, and rinse well with water after dipping.

Store your jewellery in it's original box, in the soft jewellery bag provided when you bought it. If you want to store it for longer periods you can seal it in a zip lock plastic bag to avoid oxidising.

If your jewellery becomes damaged, we will repair it at any time free of charge. Just send it back to us, carefully packaged, by Royal Mail Special Delivery.
